Summit Schools welcomes Ashley Weaver as Head of Schools/Principal beginning in the 2026/27 school year. Ashley will begin this full-time position in July.
“Ashley’s deep commitment to individualized instruction, social-emotional growth, and lifelong learning for both students and staff aligns beautifully with our mission to empower each student to exceed their academic, social, and emotional goals,” shares Tara DeWolf, board president. “Her breadth of leadership experience across classrooms, buildings, and curricula, as well as a genuine passion for students, builds a solid foundation to carry Summit’s vision forward. We are deeply grateful for everyone who invested in this process, and are excited for the wonderful things ahead for our students, staff, and families.”
With over 20 years of experience in education, Ashley has served as a classroom teacher, interventionist, and leadership coordinator. Originally from Cedar Rapids, Ashley earned her BA in Social Studies Education from the University of Northern Iowa, and her Master’s of Science in Educational Leadership from Drake University. She has previously taught at Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids and led Summit’s summer camp program for several years. She has also taught in Kansas City (MO) Public Schools, Lawrence Public Schools, and Blue Valley North High School, and is currently the Leadership Coordinator at Topeka West High School.
“Summit has a special place in my professional story,” shares Ashley. “I worked there early in my career under the mentorship of Larisa Bickel and Erikka Vosmek. That experience helped shape my deep belief in individualized, whole-child education. Returning to Summit in this leadership capacity is both a personal honor and a professional homecoming.”
Ashley is excited to return to the Cedar Rapids community and step into a new role. Outside of work, Ashley enjoys spending time with her husband and three sons, as well as with family and friends. She’s an avid reader and traveler, and loves all things Kansas City.
