Summit Schools welcomes April Bickford as Head of Schools/Principal beginning in the 2023/24 school year. April will begin this full-time position in August.

“April gained unanimous approval by both the Summit Schools Board of Trustees and staff to lead our school next year,” shares Laurene Lanich, board president. “Her energetic spirit and ability to connect with staff, students and parents will be an asset to the school in the years to come. We look forward to working with her and collaborating with her next year.”

April received her BA in elementary education from the University of Northern Iowa, her MA in special education from Walden University, and will receive PK-12 Principal/Supervisor of Special Education certification next month from Viterbo University. She has spent eight years in special education, and for the last two years she has served as the administrative designee for Harlan Elementary in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.

“I am so excited join the Summit family and am looking forward to continuing the greatness that has already been created,” says April. “Summit is celebrating its 25th anniversary this fall and I love that I get to be a part of this important milestone all while empowering our students and staff to exceed their personal and academic goals.”

April and her husband, Dylan, have two children, Addilynn and Damon. Dylan is an EMT/Firefighter. They also have three dogs; Diesel, Jack, and Hunter, and they love going on family walks, visiting the Florida beaches, and enjoying the outdoors. Outside of her career, April’s passion is in health and fitness.
